Enea chases after the myth he bears in his name; he does so to feel alive in a dead and decadent age. He does so together with Valentino, a newly baptized aviator. The two, in addition to dealing and partying, share youth. Lifelong friends, victims and perpetrators of a corrupt world, but moved by an incorruptible vitality. Beyond the boundaries of rules, on the other side of morality, there is a sea full of humanity and symbols to be discovered. Enea and Valentino will fly over it to the furthest extremes. However, drugs and the underworld are the invisible shadow of a story about something else: a melancholy father, a brother fighting at school, a mother defeated by love and a beautiful girl, a happy ending and a happy death, a palm tree falling on a glass world.

Our Review: –

Pietro Castellito doesn’t shy away from the big picture… One could even speak of folie de grandeur. Sorrentino at his side may seem academic … So we find him in the cast, starring in his own film, alongside his father, in a film that very quickly shows its pretentiousness and vacuity. Shouldn’t film schools be teaching that a camera movement that serves no purpose and adds nothing to a scene should be outlawed? Watching himself filming, experimenting with narrative experimentation (it takes 30 minutes for us to realize what kind of film we’re actually being invited to see…), demonstrating appalling bad taste (musically, the film turns into a nightmare, like the main hero, and we invite you to get an earphone so you don’t have to endure it), Castellito serves up a perfectly indigestible soup. Castellito’s attempt to renew the mafia film, by taking its reverse side and extracting its components, has all the makings of a bad culinary experience, the kind that leads us to see restaurants today offering, in the name of refinement, beef bourguignons made from fish, imitation hamburgers made from beet and soya, or, for vegetarians, a squash pie salad without squash but with cashew nuts. The ultimate bad idea… Bad from start to finish, it makes you wonder what Enea‘s free pass was to end up in the competition …
