French actor Vincent Lindon has been chosen to be the President of the Cannes Film Festival Jury. Surrounded by eight jurors, the winner of the Best Actor award in 2015 will award the Palme d’Or to one of the 21 films in the Competition on Saturday May 28, during the Closing Ceremony, which will be broadcast live by France Télévisions and Brut.

Isabelle Huppert was the last French personality to occupy, in 2009, the Presidency of the Jury. In the history of the Festival, artists from France have often played this role for a celebratory edition, such as Yves Montand in 1987 for the 40th anniversary, Gérard Depardieu in 1992 for the 45th Festival or Isabelle Adjani in 1997 for the 50th anniversary. In 2022, Vincent Lindon will be the President of the Jury of the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.

We are announcing on this occasion that the first feature film directed by Jasmine TrincaMarcel!, will be presented in a Special Screening.

It is an immense honor, and a very great pride to see me entrusted, in the midst of the tumult of the multiple events that we are going through in the world, the splendid and heavy task of presiding over the Jury of the 75th Cannes International Film Festival. With my Jury, we will do our best to take care of the films of the future, which all carry the same secret hope, courage, loyalty and freedom; whose mission is to move the greatest number of women and men by talking to them about their common wounds and joys. Culture helps the human soul to rise and hope for tomorrow.

Vincent Lindon, President of the Jury

After the coronation of Titane, Palme d’or 2021, in which he played alongside Agathe Rousselle, Vincent Lindon returns to the Croisette, no longer on but facing the screen of the Théâtre Lumière at the Palais des Festivals. His task will be to present the supreme award to whoever will succeed Julia Ducournau, the second director to win the Palme d’or after Jane Campion in 1993.

The first male role in this shocking work on tattered identities and claimed monstrosity, the actor, totally imbued with his role as a bruised firefighter, marked bodies, hearts and minds, like of each of his compositions, whether he is a business owner (Ma petite entreprise), lifeguard from Calais (Welcome), builder (Mademoiselle Chambon< /em>), Prime Minister (Pater), humanitarian (Les Chevaliers Blancs), long-term unemployed (La Loi du marché), sculptor (Rodin), great reporter (L’Apparition) or shop steward (En guerre). Physical actor, worthy heir of Jean Gabin, Lino Ventura or Patrick Dewaere, he shares with his elders ae magnetic and rough presence, where a rare sensitivity emerges. Instinctive and passionate, Vincent Lindon is a block of tension and emotion. Free from the shackles of modernity, committed and sometimes revolted, the actor likes to thwart borders with his characters in struggle and his universal stories. His search for authenticity naturally makes him endorse the political and social evils of our time – injustice, xenophobia, impoverishment – in order to better understand them. And reflect, emphasizing without judgment the contradictions of a vanquished humanity which strives to remain dignified, while also knowing how to shake up its own certainties. Faithful to the Cannes Film Festival with which it shares a long history – it presented there nine feature films since 1987 – which culminates with the Interpretation Prize awarded by the Coen brothers in 2015 for La Loi du Marché, he is also so with certain filmmakers whom he finds very regularly at the course of a filmography made up of more than seventy films: Claire Denis and Claude Lelouch on three occasions, Benoît Jacquot, Pierre Jolivet and of courseStéphane Brizé with whom he shot five films. Titane helped Vincent Lindon garner numerous nominations and awards, including the award for best actor awarded by the critics of Los Angeles. Rare feat, since the Cannes Film Festival 2021, he presented a film in the competition of the three other major cinematographic events: Venice (Another world  by Stéphane Brizé), San Sebastián (Investigation into a State Scandal by Thierry de Peretti) and Berlin (With Love and Acharement by Claire Denis).< /p>
