18th century Austria. Villages surrounded by deep forests. A woman is sentenced to death after killing a baby. Agnes is marrying her loved one and candidly prepares herself for a spouse life. Soon after, her head and heart start to feel heavy. Day after day, she is increasingly trapped in a murky and lonely path leading to evil thoughts. Maybe not just thoughts…

The film’s slow, harsh, repetitive first hour, which offered little in the way of singularity (the umpteenth costume prehistory film, except for the inclusion of IKEA issues or conflicts with a mother-in-law, between two or three phalanges and a severed head), got the better of our state of fatigue. So we won’t take the liberty of noting or even proposing a real microcriticism, just pointing out that this first hour seemed more long-winded than brilliant.
