The awards of the 75th Berlinale

Todd Haynes‘ jury has delivered its verdict. This rather diverse selection included some interesting works, but lacked highlights (no masterpieces to be noted, but a few nice gestures) and included some films whose presence in the selection seemed guided by criteria other than aesthetics.

With a few exceptions, such as the Golden Bear for a film that, in our opinion, doesn’t count, or the oddity of awarding a prize to Andrew Scott for a very small role in a film in which Ethan Hawke delivered a masterful score, we find ourselves in the same boat. (Read our critical diary)

Here’s the full list of official selection winners:

Drømmer (Dreams (Dreams)) by Dag Johan Haugerud

O último azul (The blue trail) by Gabriel Mascaro

El mensaje (The message) by Iván Fund

Rose Byrne in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You by Mary Bronstein

Andrew Scott in Blue Moon by Richard Linklater

Radu Jude for Kontinental ’25 by Radu Jude

For the creative ensemble of La Tour de Glace (The Ice Tower) by Lucile Hadžihalilović
