El Jockey’s Kaurismakian universe, with hints of the Coen brothers and even Tati, works wonders in the first 20 minutes, with its offbeat, burlesque style. Nahuel Pérez Biscayart‘s convincing performance as a ramshackle white clown (a la Krusty the Clown, for Simpsons fans) illuminates the first half of the film, which is also beautifully choreographed, with his sweeping gestures and expressive eyes. The highly visual humor (one might also refer to Buster Keaton) hits all the right notes, and is a vector of the most beautiful promises. That said, without ever becoming a shipwreck, the sequel develops a relatively bland plot (a weak Coen), stagnating once the surprise effect has worn off, and the few beautiful passages in line with the inventive opening are not enough to compensate for a form of triviality that begins to set in, and dramatic springs that are exhausted until they completely lose their way in the final third, for a frustrating finale.
